Obituary for Vernie DeWayne "De" Highfill

Vernie DeWayne “De” Highfill, of Everton, MO, departed this life on Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Cox Medical Center South in Springfield, MO at the age of 74 years.

He was born on January 11, 1944 in Independence, MO to Vernie and Beulah (Webb) Highfill. De was united to Dixie Lea (Hall) Bias on September 11, 1970 in Miami, OK. He worked as an assembly worker for Tuthill. De was avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Vernie and Beulah Highfill; one daughter, Teresa Highfill; one sister, Bonnie Floyd; and one grandchild, Delaney Little.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie Highfill of the home; two sons, Stephen Bias and wife Vicki Lee of Everton, MO and Harold Highfill and wife Dorothy of Phoenix, AZ; two daughters, Vicki Conquest and husband Cliff of Springfield, MO and Tammy Little and husband Scott of Everton, MO; two brothers, Jim Highfill of Stover, MO and Stanley Highfill of Stover, MO; five sisters, Delores LaHue of Appleton City, MO, Pat Keil and husband Gene of Harrisonville, MO, Carolyn Justison of Blue Springs, MO, Hazel Sanchez and husband Mike of Belton, MO, and Janice of Belton, MO; Eight grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2018, in Greenfield Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Hampton Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hampton Cemetery.
